Building a New ICJA![]() ![]() The Capital Campaign reached $22 million, just in time for the 2011-2012 school year. We
were thrilled to open the day with a brief ceremony with our
development team and lay leadership, celebrating ICJA's building
campaign. The campaign opened on Nov. 3 when 80 supporters and lay leaders gathered at the Lincolnwood home of Delecia and Rabbi Morris Esformes, raising $20 million to launch the school's capital campaign for the new, 21 century facility.
The Crown-Goodman
family, represented by Lester Crown and Charles H. (Corky) Goodman, led
the fundraising with a gift of $10 million.
"These gifts are a crucial beginning in the campaign to build a state-of-the-art building for ICJA students," said Jacques Gliksberg, who along with David Strulowitz chair the campaign. "Donors are demonstrating their significant support of Jewish education and the future of the Jewish community."
A plan is in place to relocate the existing school to 8225 N. Central Park, Skokie. In order to begin construction and move into the building within the next two years, $11 million more must be raised. In addition to the new building, the capital campaign will double the school's endowment, providing crucial scholarship funds and program support.
To begin the fundraising
for this important community project, the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Chicago lifted its 2008 moratorium on capital campaigns,
with all commitments to ICJA's capital
"This Federation is partnering with Ida Crown every step of the way," said Federation President Dr. Steven B. Nasatir, President. "ICJA is the flagship institution of the Modern Orthodox community and it is essential that this institution flourish to ensure the future of Chicago's vibrant Modern Orthodox community, which contributes so much to Jewish life."
Major donor Lester Crown
noted that his Uncle, Edward Crown, "drilled into us that while most of
the family is Reform or Conservative, Orthodoxy is the core of Judaism,
and it is something that has to be supported."
The new facility, which will be renovated in three stages, will meet the needs of modern education programs by providing more classroom, cutting-edge science and technology facilities and with expanded amenities for extracurricular activities.
The building also will house the Keshet High School program, providing the organization with increased space and continuing Keshet and ICJA's longstanding relationship. Keshet Executive Director Abbie Weisberg pledged to raise $1 million for the project from Keshet supporters.
