Dear ICJA Family,

Chag HaAtzmaut Sameach!

Today was a Yom HaAtzmaut, unlike any other. Not because we are at home, but because today’s program featured Torah (Rabbanit Frankel), fun (Israel Family Feud), inspiration and simcha (Ishay Ribo). To all who made the program possible, thank you! And a special thank you Rabbi Fox and Mrs. Zeffren who coordinated this, and all of our special programming throughout the year. If you missed the program – you can watch a little bit of the Family Feud game, Rabbanit Frankel, Consul General Aviv Ezra and the Ishay Ribo concert – https://www.facebook.com/IdaCrownJewishAcademy/videos/862866470880915/

Tomorrow evening I was planning on celebrating the accomplishments of two members of our senior class, Sammy Moscovitch, and Josh Pogonitz. Sammy and Josh were selected as members of this year’s JUF 18 Under 18. Sammy was singled out for his work with Yachad, and Josh for his work on behalf of mental health. We are very proud of them, and while we can’t celebrate their accomplishments in person, we celebrate them from afar. But they are just two of a very talented senior class, who we know will go on to accomplish great things, in Israel and here in the U.S.

By the way, while I’ve been bragging about our amazing students and faculty – if you truly want to see how wonderful they are – read this article that appeared in this week’s Jewish Home. Click here https://online.flowpaper.com/793d075e/TCJH424202/#page=16.

Tomorrow, we will have a regular day! The schedule is as follows

Period 1: 9:30 – 10:10 a.m.

Period 5: 10:15 – 10:55 a.m.

Period 6: 11:00 – 11:40 a.m.

Break

Period 7: 1:00 -1:40 p.m.
Period 8: 1:45 – 2:25 p.m.

Period 9: 2:30 – 3:10 p.m.

Starting Friday, the senior girls, and then starting Monday, the senior boys will have a brief Taharat HaMishpacha seminar. The girls will meet in Mrs. Kraft’s zoom room, Friday, 4th period, Tuesday, 5th period, and Wednesday, 4th period. While the senior boys will meet in Rabbi Matanky’s zoom room, Monday, 2nd period, and Tuesday, 1st period.

Last week, we completed our Parent Survey, and today we are asking our students to participate in a survey as well. The Student Survey is anonymous, but the information we will gather will be very helpful. Students, please take a few minutes to complete this survey! Here is the link

Finally, today, all of our students who receive academic services should have received a phone call or email from staff – just checking in to see if there is anything they can do to help with school. Thanks to Mrs. Holland and her team for going the extra mile, but I want to remind you that if you need support, please let us know. We understand that distance learning is not simple, and everyone needs to get used to these new realities. And as I mentioned a couple of days ago, for students who are not part of our Academic Services department but who need some help with school, REACH is ready to help. Just email Mrs. Shames at tshames@reachchicago.org to see how they can help!

Stay Safe and Stay Inspired,

B’virkat HaTorah,

LAM

Rabbi Leonard A. Matanky, Ph.D.
