Dear ICJA Family:

Yom Yerushalayim sameach!

Today we began our celebration of Yerushalayim with a special Hallel thanks to our YU Torah Mitzion Kollel, followed by an all-school assembly with Rabbi Brand and the winners of the video contest – “What Israel Means to Me.” Congratulations to Hannah Stein, Gabriel Gordon Burstyn, and Ezra Landman Feigelson for winning this competition. We want to extend a special thank you to our alumni, Tamar Chavel, Gabi Katz, and Margalit Pogonitz, who sent videos about their connection to Israel and to Phil Zbaraz for imagining and sponsoring this competition. To see the videos, click here.

A lot of our teachers continue to do amazing things beyond the classroom. There are regular morning davening sessions, committee meetings (don’t forget, there is a Newspaper meeting on Tuesday, 5/26/20, at 3:15 p.m. in Mrs. Goldstein’s zoom room), and tutoring sessions. This morning I learned about another great project, this one from Rabbi Meyer Simcha Stromer, our boys’ mechanech. Called “ICJA High School Halacha” – it is a daily series of brief halacha classes based upon questions that Rabbi Stromer has received over the years. Click here to see some of the sessions.

ICJA Yearbooks are on their way and should be here during the first week of June. They will be delivered to the seniors, and as I mentioned a couple of days ago, they will be available when students pick up their things from their lockers (the week of June 15).

Tuesday’s schedule is:

Period 2: 9:30 – 10:10 a.m.

Period 3: 10:15 – 10:55 a.m.

Period 4: 11:00 – 11:40 a.m.

Break

Period 10: 1:00 -1:40 p.m.

Period 11: 1:45 – 2:25 p.m.

Period 12: 2:30 – 3:10 p.m.

And finally, last night I discovered how to be in three places at one time! Though the magic of zoom, I was able to recite the prayer for the IDF at the local RZC Yom Yerushalayim celebration,  introduce the national celebration of Yom Yerushalayim co-sponsored by OU, YU, RZA and RCA, and deliver a special pre-Shabbat drasha in honor of Yom Yerushalayim for K.I.N.S. It is an amazing result of this unusual time! And if you want, here is the drasha – click here.

Stay safe, stay inspired, and stay in touch!

B’virkat HaTorah,

LAM

Rabbi Leonard A. Matanky, Ph.D.
