Dear ICJA Family:

Growing up, the end of the school year was a time for THE “countdown” of how many more days until summer vacation. Well… depending on how you count, if you include finals or not, we are only 3 or 8 days away.

But this year, I want to suggest a different count – a “count-up” towards what will be either the 48th or 53rd day that our students, faculty, and staff have proven their resilience, creativity, talent, and inspiration. It hasn’t been easy, especially now that we face not only the restrictions of a pandemic but the social unrest in our community. Yet, they’ve done it and continue to do it, fulfilling a form of the rabbinic dictum of “ma’alin b’kodesh” of rising each day in the sacred pursuit of knowledge!

Today in our faculty town hall meeting, I learned not only of Rabbi Kurtz’s Talmud class father and son “Kahoot Kompetition” (the alliteration is mine) which followed a challenge for parents to study with their children over Shavuot, but also how our faculty is preparing for next year and the unknown challenges it may bring. While I don’t know precisely how things will shift over the summer, I did share that I am confident that our school is nimble enough to adapt and to continue to work with our students, helping them learn whether in person or online.

Which is my segue to remind you about tomorrow night’s Parent Town Hall Meeting at 8:00 pm. Once again, Dr. Ben Katz will be joining us to give a medical update, and I will offer a school update. Click here for the link.

Next week, our teachers will be coming back to school to pick up their materials for the summer, and the week after that, students will be able to pick up their things as well.

The plan for the student pick up of possessions is simple – our maintenance staff is currently packing up all of the items from student lockers. Beginning June 8, students will be assigned times (see below) to come to the building and pick up their “box,” which will have all of their lockers’ contents and, if ordered, their 2020 ICJA Keter Yearbook. A staff member will place the boxes in their car trunk and pick up from the trunk any textbooks which need to be returned (seniors who are not buying their ipads can return them at that time as well).

The schedule for this pickup will be as follows:

Monday, Jun 15

9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Students with last names beginning with A-B

12:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m. Students with last names beginning with C-E
