I am writing to confirm that an individual from the New York area with strong connections to our Chicago community tested positive for Covid-19. This individual interacted with several members of our community at the recent AIPAC Policy Conference.
As soon as we learned of this situation, we, together with the Skokie Jewish Day Schools and other communal leaders were in touch with the Department of Health of the Village of Skokie, and they advised us that our schools and shuls can, without hesitation, remain open.
However, we must remain vigilant and continue to encourage our members and students to wash their hands frequently, to practice good hygiene, and of course, stay home if they develop any symptoms similar to a cold or the flu.
We will continue to monitor this situation providing updates as needed, and if you have any questions, please feel free to be in touch.
May all those affected have a refuah shlaima,
Rabbi Leonard A. Matanky, Ph.D.
Dean, Ida Crown Jewish Academy
