Giving Students a Voice
Students have always had opportunities for leadership at ICJA–initiating programming, clubs and even sports teams–and then running them. However, with regular Townhall meetings over the past few year, students have had the opportunity to voice concerns and even have a say in how our school runs. Rules that could seem arbitrary to high school students are discussed in an honest, open forum. Additionally, students can offer ideas for making our community even stronger. Meetings take place at regular intervals for each grade level, divided by boys and girls.
Thanks to the success of Townhall meetings, there was no question that our students would be involved in determining next year’s school uniforms. Groups of boys and girls met at length with staff members to determine what uniforms would make the most sense for our students–something that would be comfortable for students to wear and manageable for staff to maintain.
