Dear ICJA Family:
It’s the second day of “National Teacher Appreciation Week,” so I’ve decided to share with some of the great things our teachers are doing.
This morning, Rabbi Michael Myers sent me a copy of his 4B Girls Navi class’ Mishle project. It’s a fantastic piece of work that includes both student art and reflection on critical ideas found in the book of Mishle. But don’t take my word for it – see it for yourself at this link – click here.
This afternoon, Mr. Harris told me about a most creative lesson that he observed in Mrs. Zeffren’s Jewish History class. She is leading a Socratic seminar about early-modern Jewish history (the period between the Renaissance and the Enlightenment). Currently, her students are identifying the main challenges of that era which threatened Jewish identity and continuity, versus the challenges of our time which threaten Jewish identity and continuity. The next step will be to identify three Jewish values that are most important to them and create a meme and a counter-meme to illustrate one of those threats and values. Wow!
The Student Survey was closed on Sunday evening. While we are still reviewing the comments, overall, students felt that they were challenged by the amount of assigned work, questioned whether all of the homework was necessary, and did not feel as strongly as their parents that the instruction was delivered seamlessly. However, they too commended the school for our preparedness and praised teachers for their willingness to be available outside of class.
Tomorrow’s schedule is as follows:
Period 2: 9:30 – 10:10 a.m.
Period 3: 10:15 – 10:55 a.m.
Period 4: 11:00 – 11:40 a.m.
Period 10: 1:00 -1:40 p.m.
Period 11: 1:45 – 2:25 p.m.
Period 12: 2:30 – 3:10 p.m.
Please don’t forget that tonight is Grandparents Night. Tune in at 8 p.m. for an inter-generational program with world-renowned mentalist Eran – CLICK HERE to enter the program.
And finally, mazal tov to Rabbi Mayer Simcha Stromer and his wife Shira on the birth of a baby girl!
Stay Safe, Stay Inspired and Stay Connected!
Rabbi Leonard A. Matanky, Ph.D.
