Dear ICJA Family:

Last night was a VERY successful ICGC Paint Night program. Over 70 students and future students participated and created beautiful paintings! Thank you to our mechanchot, Mrs. Hagage, and Mrs. Kraft for leading this program and to Mrs. Zwelling and Mrs. Nussbaum for helping make it happen! We also thank the Walder Foundation for supporting our mechanchot program.

Tomorrow is Lag B’Omer, and ICJA has another special program for our students with chesed, learning, and fun! Sponsored in memory of Ann Rita Schwartz, z”l, this program is the third in this year’s series of chesed days.

The program will begin with 1st-period classes, during which teachers will focus on the topic of “hakarat hatov” – appreciating the good, and will also initiate a chesed project. Afterward, all of the students will gather for a showing of ICJA’s Got Talent, hosted by Mr. Sears, and featuring videos that have been submitted by our students. Here is the link – We look forward to a great morning!

By the way, our YU Kollel Torah MiTzion is also sponsoring two Lag B’Omer programs, the first a “Lag B’Omer Bonfire with Rabbi Brand” tonight at 8:45–9:15 pm and the second, a program co-sponsored with Madreigos on Tuesday evening, 7:45–9:00 pm – “a night of chizuk and inspiration,” and featuring Joey Newcomb and area rabbis. Both programs will be broadcast live on the YU Kollel Torah MiTzion Youtube channel –

Tuesday, Lag B’Omer, our schedule is as follows:

Period 1: 9:30 – 10:10 a.m. (regular class locations)

Period 5: 10:15 – 10:55 a.m. (ICJA’s Got Talent)

Period 6: 11:00 – 11:40 a.m.

Period 7: 1:00 -1:40 p.m.

Period 8: 1:45 – 2:25 p.m.

Period 9: 2:30 – 3:10 p.m.

And finally, this is the last week of classes for our seniors. Many of them have already begun taking their AP tests, and all of them are getting ready for their final assessments. While this stay-at-home order has been difficult form us all, it has also deprived our seniors of many of the traditional rites of passage. However, we still hope to have an in-person graduation on August 16 and to celebrate their accomplishments in as many ways as possible. Over the coming days, please visit our Facebook page to read about our seniors and to share in some of their reflections on ICJA.

Class of 5780 – you have achieved great things at ICJA, and you are destined for even greater accomplishments. Your talents, tenacity and ability to focus on what truly matters will serve you well throughout your lives. We will miss you, and we pray that you will always stay in touch!

Stay Safe and Stay Inspired!

B’virkat HaTorah,

Rabbi Leonard A. Matanky, Ph.D.
