27 Iyar 5780
May 21, 2020
Dear ICJA Family:
In just a couple of hours, we will celebrate Yom Yerushalayim, the 53rd anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem. As I mentioned in an earlier email, despite the stay-at-home orders, our community has risen to the occasion and developed a full gamut of opportunities to commemorate the miracle of ’67 and acknowledge the centrality of this sacred city.
Please make tonight and tomorrow special. Whether via our local online celebration – ym.rzc.us (7:20p), a national celebration rzc.org/fblive (8:00p), tomorrow morning’s special Hallel program youtube.com/kollel613 (9:00a) or OUR all-school assembly featuring opening remarks by Rabbi Brand and saluting the winners of our video competition “What Israel Means to Me” during 1st period tomorrow icja.us/jerusalem2020 (9:30a). (BTW students: The 1st-period assembly is mandatory – and attendance will be taken!)
On a totally different note – kudos to our cross country team. Faced with the challenges of the pandemic, they’ve continued running – only now while maintaining social distance. Over the past few days, what began as a 100 total mile challenge, has extended into a combined effort of 26 runner and 131.67 miles. Thank you, Coach Jaffe and Coach Hunter, for keeping our students in shape and involved.
While we plan for our in-person graduation on Aug 16, yesterday, our own Mrs. Chavee Gottlieb completed her Masters degree in Education through Brandeis University. For the past two years, Mrs. Gottlieb was a Legacy Heritage Fellow at the Brandeis Teacher Leadership Program, and we are fortunate that she has brought many of the things she learned to our science department. Mazal tov Mrs. Gottlieb – we are so proud of this accomplishment!
Tomorrow’s schedule is:
Period 1: 9:30 – 10:10 a.m. – Yom Yerushalayim Assembly
Period 5: 10:15 – 10:55 a.m.
Period 6: 11:00 – 11:40 a.m.
Period 7: 1:00 -1:40 p.m.
Period 8: 1:45 – 2:25 p.m.
Period 9: 2:30 – 3:10 p.m.
Finally, one correction to yesterday’s email – I only congratulated Mrs. Pogonitz’s girls Navi class for finishing five books of Navi. But I forgot that her boys Navi class did the same. Way to go ICJA 9th grade boys!
Stay safe, stay inspired, and stay in touch!
Rabbi Leonard A. Matanky, Ph.D.
