On Thursday, August 27, ICJA students participated in an all-school Chesed Day, spending their morning learning about and volunteering with a range of local chesed organizations.

Students first learned about community organizations and then volunteered with Chicago Center, where they packed food; Buckingham Pavilion, where they visited residents; Chesed Chicago, where they stocked the food pantry and book and school supply reserves; Yachad, where they visited with and learned from Yachad participants; and the Norton & Elaine Sarnoff Center for Jewish Genetics, which visited our school with Rosh Hashana information sheets that students packaged.

The day concluded with a Chesed Fair, where students met representatives from organizations including Lev/Lebeinu, Yachad, Chai Lifeline, Upward Mentors, Bikur Cholim Kitchen, Hersh’s Fridge, Bnei Akiva Volunteers, Chesed Chicago, Babka & Bubbies, MahJong @ Park Plaza, and others.

Thank you to the many club members and volunteers who made our Chesed Day so meaningful. Thank you to Mrs. Alissa Zeffren and Rav Mordy Greenland for organizing this wonderful day.
