Aces Baseball Champions
The Aces varsity baseball team defeated TABC 8-7 on May 1 to take the Bob Lane Memorial Trophy and win the Columbus Baseball Invitational Championship. The game was tied at seven with Ida Crown batting in the bottom of the seventh when Ami Greenberg hit a single to bring in Joseph Dimbert for the game winning run. Ida Crown earned the victory despite falling behind 6-0 after two innings.
TABC got the hot start when the Aces couldn’t avoid errors in the beginning. The team went on to focus and make the plays throughout the remainder of the game when it counted most.
ICJA scored four runs in the fourth inning, with the offense coming from singles by Zack Paskoff, Ami Greenberg and Sammy Schwartz, a walk by Max Baker and a groundout by Joseph Dimbert.
Dimbert led the Aces to victory on the pitcher’s mound throwing for the second day in a row as he allowed three hits and one run over five and a third innings, striking out four. Dimbert recorded the last 16 outs.
Four pitchers from TABC tried valiantly but could not hold down the Aces, who had more than seven hits in the fourth game in a row of the tournament.
In the semi-final game, the Aces scored eight runs in the fourth on its way to an 11-3 victory over SAR. Aces batters contributing to the big inning included Ami Greenberg, Noah Pogonitz, Sammy Schwartz, Max Baker and Joseph Dimbert–who all drove in runs.
The team won 13-3 against Kohlelet in the opening round of the CBI tournament. Congrats to the Champions!
