The ICJA Aces cross country team is enjoying an outstanding fall 2016 season, racking up hardware and PR’s at every meet. The team, made up of mostly underclassmen, ICJA’s largest interscholastic athletic team, with over 50 runners annually.

Adding to the challenge of having a short athletic season and little time to train in the late summer, the team has trained and competed this year mostly in high temperatures in what is a short athletic season.

These racing Aces competed in the Mather Invitational at Legion Park on September 20 with 33 runners and 28 PRs. Out of 500+ runners and 16 schools, the Aces won four medals and placed 6th in the boys meet and 7th in the girls meet.

Special mention to the following runners:
Michael Edelman: Finished 24th overall and 13th among seniors.
Micah Cohen: Finished 3rd among freshman and 25th overall.
Gabe Cohen: Continued to mount his comeback, finishing 9th among juniors.
Zack Cohen: Having a dream season and finishing 10th among juniors.
Adina Trubnick: Finished 10th among juniors
Nechma Braun: Finished 11th among juniors – just a hair away from a medal.

On Sunday, September 18, 37 runners competed in a dual meet against Rochelle Zell, with 18 PR’s despite another 80 degree day. Congrats to the girls team for winning both the Open and the Varsity race! The boys did really great too but came up short.

Congrats to medal winners:
Open Girls: Hailey Jakosky 1st and Daniella Kluk 2nd.
Open Boys: Nathan Edelman 2nd
Varsity Girls: Adina Trubnick 1st and Nechama Braun 3rd.
Varsity Boys: Ezra Perlow 1st.

At a meet last week at Steinmetz, the Aces completed the team’s best big race in team history, taking 2nd in the boys and 3rd in the girls race, winning medals and setting a huge number of PRs. Among 30 ICJA runners, there were 17 who had a PR, and 10 runners beat last year’s time. Our seven who finished in the top 20 included: Ezra Perlow (3), Michael Edelman (13), Micah Cohen (14), Shmuel Bergman (16), Adina Trubnick(4), Nechama Braun (5), and Tzippy David (12).
