ICJA fencers hosted Deerfield, Highland Park and Brooks High Schools last week in our second home meet of the season. It was a tough match for the Aces, but they continue to show growth and grit. In women’s foil juniors Dena Lebowitz and Chaya Feige Friedman earned one victory a piece. Rebecca Quintas demonstrated real improvement in her fencing by scoring touches in each bout. In women’s epee senior Nava Wolgel won three of her four bouts, losing her fourth bout by one touch. Chani Shapiro added an additional victory for the squad. Both Julia Polster and Shira David came achingly close with two 4-5 losses each against the DHP team.

In men’s foil, Epee fencer Josh Polster led the squad with four victories and one loss. Shimon Stein earned three solid victories and two losses, including a close 4-5 defeat. Saber fencer Michael Julio Price had two foil victories and three losses, including a 4-5 loss. He went undefeated against the DHP saber fencers. Josh Polster went undefeated against the DHP epee squad.

The fencing Aces have one more meet in their schedule against two teams they haven’t faced before: Lowell High School, from Indiana, and Homewood-Flossmoor High School, in Flossmoor at 9AM on Monday, February 15.
