While so much of our role as educators is to provide an outstanding college prep and Jewish education, central to that mission at ICJA is to create a Jewish community within our school. This sense of family is what connects our students to one another, to our teachers and to the greater Jewish community. It’s what builds lifetime friendships; it’s what brings out the best in one another; and it’s what so many of our alumni remember most fondly from the Academy.

This was why we revived our past program of an all school retreat to Camp Chi again this year, thanks to the generous support of donors Leslie and Tom Silverstein. The tremendous program this week brought our entire school and much of staff to Camp Chi for two days of bonding, learning, growing and playing.

Activities included sports, tie-dyeing t-shirts, meaningful learning sessions, a school-wide Family Feud game featuring Ida Crown trivia, a family tree art mural, a bonfire kumzitz, a faculty vs. senior basketball game and trip to Kalahari theme park.

We are grateful to our faculty who worked “overtime” and especially to our activity leaders, Mrs. Zeffren, Mrs. Fuchs, and Rabbi Fox. We look forward to what the rest of this year’s We Are Family programming will bring.
